Blackouts and Bleach

I am pretty sure that my hands are going to smell like bleach for the rest of this week. I'm not sure who thought Clorox wipes were a good idea, but I disagree. And even more so, who thought they would be a good idea to use in a hospital to wipe down equipment? Cavi wipes are much better because they don't smell and they don't make me smell. I have gagged several times today because of the smell of  bleach. Blah!

And if you know me, you know that I have a fainting problem on occasion. It has been quite a while since I've actually fainted, maybe 3 or 4 years since the last time. I'm sure my preceptor thought I was passing out because of the blood spouting, but that definitely wasn't it. I think maybe I just needed something to eat and/or drink. Maybe my blood sugar was low, although that's never been determined to be the issue. Anyway, I was standing there in the ICU holding the art line and next thing I know I am uncontrollably hot and I notice my vision blurring. I just said, "I've gotta take these gloves out. Okay, I'm gonna step out here for a second. It's really hot in here." I made it to a chair at the nursing station right outside the room. I almost slipped off the chair as soon as I sat down haha. I pulled the trashcan out and put my head down. I was sweating ridiculous amounts, I was so sweaty I almost looked like I had taken a shower! I don't remember the next few moments other than a ringing that just got louder and louder and the pressure in my head got greater and greater. I'm fairly sure I blacked out, but I did not fall out of the chair. I was trying so hard to hold onto the counter to avoid falling on the floor. How embarrassing would that be?! I pray that does not happen again. From now on, I will be eating breakfast on clinical days! Lesson learned!

It's Mid-February!

Where has the time gone? Seriously, this year is flying by! So here's what we've been doing since my last post, a month ago haha.

Matthew started his new job. Although it's not as much money and it's not as busy, he still likes it! Hopefully there is more opportunity for him at this new job. He gets to go in about an hour later in the mornings (and the drive is 20 minutes shorter each way), so he's not quite as ill at night haha. And he doesn't have to wear a uniform anymore, just polo shirts and khakis or jeans. This may be his favorite part of the job!

School has been going good so far! We have had three tests. I've gotten an 88 and 86, not sure about the one I took today. Clinicals are super fun, and I seriously cannot wait to start doing this for a job! I've been at a place in my hometown for the last two weeks that I just loved, but unfortunately they only hire people with at least two years of experience. But I'm keeping it in mind for the second that I hit two years of experience haha. If you know me, you know that I'm not the most outwardly emotional, caring, and tenderhearted person. But something about walking into a patient's room changes me instantly! I'm a totally different person when I'm in that hospital. I've heard comments from people saying, "I just don't see her being a nurse". First of all, I'm not going to school to be a nurse. It's respiratory therapy. Second of all, if you're saying that then you probably don't really know me at all. Only the closest of friends and family have seen my true character.

I have officially completed my medical transcription program! I actually finished it in December, but just got the notification letter from the school saying I'm eligible to walk at graduation. However, I am not going to be participating in the ceremony. I still have to pay $45 though! I will be walking next year, so I didn't see the point in doing it twice. I have sent my resume out to a few places, so hopefully I can get a part-time job doing transcription from home. And I am officially 1/3 of the way done with respiratory therapy!

Maybe I will have some more time to update this more than once every month!
